With a bit of extra effort, your travel diary won’t be full of : ‘beauty is pain’
You know you are a fashionista when you rather freeze on the plane in sheer black leggings than don a pair of sweat pants. However, why is it the impression that comfortable travelers are badly dressed ones? Here is a head to toe know-how for all you comfort-over-chic and chic-over-comfort women. Because ultimately, when it comes to style and ease, it isn’t a competition but a stiletto-like balance.
Tootsy Warmers
Keep in mind your feet might swell a bit due to cabin pressure in the plane but that does not make sneakers your only option. Think sneaker inspired platforms! They offer the same amount of comfort with the leg elongation we can never have enough of. Since Sergio Rossi designed a platform sneaker series for Puma, they are definitely trip-tastic in my books. Also low heeled wedges or bright coloured ballerina flats are just as great when it comes to comfort and style. Avoid flip flops simply because they don’t keep your toes toasty and the need to air them out is served when you remove your shoes during long flights anyway.
Perfect Pins
Flaunt your shapely legs from the fuzzy warmth of your jeans! They are versatile and also an item you might as well wear there since denim is one of the heavier clothes items. Skirts are just too much a hassle for comfort travelling but if you must layer one over leggings so you don’t look like you are trying too hard. Speaking of leggings, keep it perky with fun colors! Nobody said leggings need to be black so why not try a cool blue or even hot pink. Another option is to wear a long day skirt or dress. It is carefree comfort and also easy access for a quick moisturizer session on the plane.
Body Business
People tend to lean towards long sleeved options such a cotton pullover and linen shirts. But if you are not heading somewhere cold, long sleeved shirts may only be ideal in the plane so why not fool around with layers which you can remove later on? Wear a simple tank or spaghetti top, they go with anything, and tote a cute cardigan or jacket along. Bring a shawl or a pashmina to throw over the ensemble to finish the look.
Face Value
A lot of fashionistas have different opinions on this. Some say don’t wear make-up as it is an unnecessary hassle for travelling since the invention of sunglasses, however others think there is no harm in light make-up except the possibility of getting the number of the cute guy sitting next to you. My take is do whatever you feel more comfortable with for as cold as the cabin is the make-up won’t be making it any drier so long you moisturized before application. Keep it light and play up the blusher to make you look well rested upon landing and all geared up for your holiday! Regardless of your opinion lip balm is word. A tub of Vaseline is ideal for lips and also your skin.
Mane Management
Most people say tie it up to keep it out of the way but I say let it down so you don’t have to keep re-tying it every time you lean back on the airplanes seat! If you must tie it, make it a low knot and to make it look more done up, take a small section and wrap it around the rubber band and tuck it away with a bobby pin. Voila! Stunning simplicity. If you are keeping it down play around with head bands which aside from being a fashion statement is also a good way to keep strays off your face so nothing will come in the way of your cat nap.
