Kids-Friendly Trips

Mums can now enjoy trips as much as the kids with these simple steps

The school holidays are approaching and that means it is the time of the year when I run helter-skelter. So planning out activities for every single day of the holidays is highly imperative to maintain some sort of sanity in the Amara household. Of course the inevitable activity that stirs up the most excitement within my children (and serves as the best tool of bribing for me) is our annual holiday road trip. After a lot of headaches and countless attempts at nipping the ‘are we there yet?’ question, I have come up with essential items to keep my little monsters occupied.’ Here are some of them.

Activities
‘ Books, magazines, and comics
‘ Games, such as Simon says and travel bingo
‘ Sketchbook and colored pencils
‘ Blank postcards bought on the road which children can write to friends and family
‘ Dry-erase board and Etch A Sketch
‘ Portable DVD player and DVDs (you really really don’t want to forget the headphones!)
‘ Tape recorder: Have your kids produce their own travel broadcast

Food
‘ Individually packaged, crumb-free snacks
‘ Dried fruits such as apricots and raisins
‘ Bottles filled with water
‘ Individual juice boxes with straws

Miscellaneous
‘ First-aid items, such as bandages, anti-bacterial wipes, sunscreen
‘ Garbage bags to collect trash
‘ Plenty of extra wet wipes
‘ A change of clothes that is easily accessible
‘ Blanket for naps or complaints on the temperature control
