Ever felt like you are stuck in between all these random comments that people make about fitness?
“You should drink more water.” “Water increases your weight and makes your stomach bloat!” You see A in this article, then B in the other, and now you’re all confused, wondering if you are doing it right. Fret not! We’re clearing the air for you.
1. Myth: Women shouldn’t lift weights
They all say that lifting weights are a big no-no for women, because they build muscles, and buff you up.
Truth is: In actual fact, it takes so much more to build muscles than lifting weights. Women produce more hormones, which is also known as estrogen thus preventing them from bulking up too much, too soon. Men, on the other hand, chalks up more muscles because of the testosterone hormones in them. So, go ahead with the barbells, ladies! They definitely help with toning your flabs.
2. Myth: Your weight is the ultimate key to your health
We all start off by monitoring our weight. Some of us become extremely paranoid when they are no changes even after some hard work in the gym.
Truth is: Many of us put our weight as the defining factor of our general health. To a certain extend, your weight is a good indicator. However the important issue is NOT to redeem an ideal weight, but to live a healthier lifestyle. Giving up on maintaining a good and balanced health approach because of no change in weight loss is absolutely not the way to go. The key to life is being in good health no matter what you weigh. To be healthy, you’ll have ample energy and stamina to start achieving that ideal weight.
3. Myth: Protein shakes as meals
You’re all excited and stocking up protein shakes. You skip meals, and protein shakes become your only and ultimate dinner solution because they say it is the secret to a Victoria Secret model body.
Truth is: Protein shakes are the lowest meals ever. Instead of forcing them down the throat, the best way to get protein is through real food such as turkey sandwiches and yogurts. They also provide other health benefits such as vitamins and minerals!
4. Myth: As long as I hit the gym everyday, I’m all- good!
Working out in the gym is all that you know. After sometime, you realised getting used to a routine by hitting the gym everyday is not hard at all. And so you feel good that you’re fit, and everything else is just fine.
Truth is: To tone up, one needs more than a gym membership. Diet, and lifestyle comes hand-in-hand with your workout routines. Even if you make an effort to go to the gym, but not eat in moderation, then it does not make a difference. A sample of the food pyramid should be useful in the course of an effective fitness program!
5. Myth: You’re doing it wrong if you’re feeling OK
They say you shouldn’t get too comfortable while working out. You should not be feeling like you’re doing just fine with all the push-ups and sit-ups because that simply means you’re not pushing yourself hard enough!
Truth is: One of the biggest mistakes we tend to make is doing too much too soon. We always want to start off like a firing rocket, however often overlooking the circumstances of ‘overtraining’ and how it affects our body. We don’t normally feel the after-effects until a day or two. Thus, take it slow, and don’t rush into things. Sometimes, it might just get out of hand, and there’s a great possibility of injuries!
6. Myth: Obesity will never escape from the genes
You see a chain of obese in the family and it has been your worst nightmare since forever. It gets worst when you see all these articles stating how obesity is already part of you.
Truth is: Although obesity is partly genetic, there are many other ways that could be done to avoid being overweight.
Environmental factors play a huge role in weight gain, specifically overeating. There are higher chances for an individual to follow the footsteps of the eating habits of their elders. Instead of sitting on the couch, snacking on potato chips and feeling sorry for yourself, pick yourself up, go to a park and walk away.
7. Myth: Sports bra are only to prevent painful bounce
The reason why you invest on those expensive sports bra is because you think they can protect your breasts from painful bounce.
Truth is: They are worth more than that. They also prevent you from getting permanent breast sags. While high-impact sports activities can stress your connective tissues, sports bras helps support and strengthen them during vigorous exercises. So don’t hesitate on those sports bra, it will be worth it in the long run!
8. Myth: You need the latest equipment to maximize results.
You’re always on the search for the latest equipment. You fret about your best friend being able to own them and you’re running low on cash.
Truth is: Even the simplest dumbbells can bring the best out in you. The latest equipment and the ‘best’ ones won’t necessarily fit your fitness level. Enjoy the advantage of being able to work out in the privacy of your own home, and work with them with a variety of exercises. The simpler the better, keep it simple and sweet!
