A scent for every senses
We all know that our senses are affected by our surroundings, be it by what we see, touch, taste, sound and smell. But it is worth mentioning that where one can block certain senses, you will be hard pressed to find a way to stop smell by not breathing! So make the best out of it and surround yourself with mood enhancing whiffs according to your current needs.
If you feel like pulling out your hair
Stress creeps up on the best of us sometimes and a good way to nip it quick is to find yourself an empty place, be it even a toilet cubicle and rub a little of GERANIUM, PALMAROSA or LAVANDER on your wrists and put your head in your hands to take a moment to yourself. Or even have a steaming cup of CHAMOMILE tea and spend a good minute just sniffing it to calm down. Your hair will thank you.
If you cried because your coffee went cold
Sadness can manifest itself in many ways that may seem odd to others. So until you source its root and sort it out, mellow out the blues with BERGAMOT, ATLAS CEDAR WOD and PEPPERMINT scents either in the form of burning the oils or having scent bags placed anywhere you spend a good amount of time, like your car or desk at work. The parts of brain stimulated by scent are those that are components in depression so give yourself a pick me up with uplifting smells.
If you want a little more energy for chasing after the kids
If like me, start feeling lethargic after a few hours of running errands then having invigorating scents around you could help perk you up. BASIL, ROSEMARY and SAGE are the scents to look out for and good to know that they are all food! So make a healthy afternoon snack that could include them like a basil mushroom omelet or a rosemary infused crouton. If you are still too busy to even contemplate cooking mid noon, buy TEA TREE oil and sniff to awaken yourself and help you charge through the rest of the day.
If you would like to catch more sleep
It is amazing how one can be exhausted and still find it hard to get a good night’s rest. Luckily for us, there are some scents that can help us in our winding down process to ensure some solid sleep! SWEET MARJORAM, CHAMOMILE and MELISSA are a few scents to choose from as you draw yourself a warm bath. Make sure to close the windows and door to the bathroom so you really get the full therapeutic effects of the scent. A cup of CHAMOMILE over a book is said to be helpful too if you do not bathe at night.
