Karam is 107 years old while his wife, Katari is at the ripe old age of 100. Together, they’ve been married for 87 years with eight children and twenty eight grandchildren.

Their marriage is reported to have lasted nearly five years longer than the current Guinness World Record holders. The couple are now awaiting confirmation from the company to be named as the new record holders. Thus it would make sense that both Karam and Katari make the perfect couple to dish out relationship advice.

Hailing from Punjab, India, the couple’s story began like any other arranged marriage of that time. Love was only slowly cultivated in the relationship after that and the couple who is now based in Bradford, UK, shared that the key to a successful union is to look after each other in every way possible. And, lots of laughter help as well.

Karam said his trick is to make Katari laugh and he enjoys making her smile throughout the years. “Being funny is my way of being romantic. I have been told laughing makes you live longer…my wife is still alive so it must have worked! I love her so much and I want to spend another 80 years by her side,” confided the sweetest man on earth.

As for Katari, her secret is to look after him with what the modern day would call romantic cooking. She used to make him a fresh meal every night when she was younger, the couple are vegetarian and so she made sure he was eating healthy food. “Health is very important and I wanted to look after him so we could grow old together. Some would say it has worked!”

The lovely lady also never failed to save a bit of chapatti for him, she quipped “just a little gesture that he appreciated a lot and it kept me a bit slimmer.”

Another secret that the couple said which has helped made their marriage last is to spend plenty of time together. They have not spent any long span apart from each other in over 50 years.

The couple also truly believe that listening is a key component in the longevity of a marriage. Karam opined that people these days do not take the time to listen to each other properly, instead are being occupied with work, TV and other stuff.

“Relationships are about understanding one another and listening to concerns and problems, so my advice to men and women is to listen to their partners, show interest in what they are saying and help them overcome any worries or problems they are going through,” said the experienced man.

So what are their top 5 tips for wedded bliss?

  1. Always be faithful
