Facebook profile pages are set to have a new feature – a “Timeline” that transforms profile pages into interactive digital scrapbook, allowing users to share “the story of your life”, as described by Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The “Timeline” introduced by Facebook in September, features new ways where users are able share and discover news, photos, music, videos and more.
The change is now available to more than 800 million users on Facebook. What’s interesting is that Timeline is able to visually chronicle and graph your posts based on when information is uploaded.
“Timeline gives you an easy way to rediscover the things you shared, and collect your most important moments,” Facebook said in a blog.
When users start to upgrade to the Timeline, they are given 7 days to privately review and edit how it will be accessible by their friends before the page automatically goes live online.
“What Timeline does is show all the recent activity and then as you go back in time it starts summarising the things you’ve done in your life,” Zuckerberg said.
The Timeline did not come without its criticisms as well. Social communities have raised its concerns over how appropriately the social network protects people’s privacy.
However Facebook has stated that they have worked with privacy groups while developing the Timeline to ensure users have an easy and clear-cut control over what information gets shared and with whom it is intended to.
