As a lead up to this Chinese New Year, take the entire family for one of the most anticipated interactive plays for children and parents this season; Ma Liang and the Magic Paintbrush,  from February 1 – 3 at Cabaret PJ Live Arts.

"One day you'll be well again and we'll have better times ahead, Mama!"

“One day you’ll be well again and we’ll have better times ahead, Mama!”

Based on a traditional Chinese fable, Ma Liang and the Magic Paintbrush tells a tale of a village girl who befriends a mystical dragon that presents her with a magic paintbrush, which brings anything she paints to life.

Trouble and adventure awaits Ma Liang as the Prince of the Province hears of the Magic Paintbrush and wants it for himself, and she is forced to use her quick wits to outsmart the Prince.

But the greedy Evil Prince wants "More gold, Advisor! It's all MINE! Mmmmiiiiiinnnne!!!"

The show, organised by Box of Delights Family Theatre, aims to entertain, educate and inspire young audiences, drawing from legends, literature, and historical lore of different cultures to present high-quality, imaginative and delightful theatre.

Sharon Lam, Director of Ma Liang and the Magic Paintbrush, expressed her excitement in bringing this folktale to life in time for the Chinese New Year festivities.

“It’s a brilliant time of the year when the family gets together; and with Ma Liang and the Magic Paintbrush, it is our dream that every audience, of every age, be able to take something from this show.

Compassion, humour, and a notion that good prevails against evil are strong themes which we want to get across to children in a simple but effective platform – which is theatre!”
