Taiwan, a land famous for funky-themed (remember the toilet-themed restaurant chain?) eating places can add another interesting venture to its plate – the first Barbie-themed restaurant!

Set with hot pink sofas, high heels-shaped tables, cute chairs decorated with tutus, and basically everything synonymous with the world’s most famous blonde, the Barbie cafe is set to get girls and women of all ages excited.

What’s not to love? Us more ‘mature’ ones get to relive our childhood once more, while the younger generation get to act like real life Plastics ala The Mean Girls as the restaurant not only serves food – but Mattel garments, accessories, furniture, and of course the Barbie dolls themselves!

So why now and why Taiwan? According to Mattel, restaurant group Sinlaku was licensed to operate the Barbie Cafe with hopes of promoting Barbie as a fashion brand in the shopping district of Taipei – besides the fact that themed restaurants are very popular and successful in Taiwan, and that the state once used to be a manufacturing centre for the dolls until Mattel relocated its production lines to China and elsewhere to lower costs in the late 1980s.

The restaurant also targets to attract Barbie fans from the region, specifically China, Hong Kong and Japan – question is, will Malaysians be flocking to the restaurant anytime soon? Have your say below!
