Get your kain ready to join in this year’s Keretapi Sarong event.

Keretapi Sarong 2013

What is Keretapi Sarong? It’s a fun event modelled after New York’s No Pants Subway movement. Anyone and everyone can take part, but instead of going sans clothes like the New Yorkers, the local chapter requires one to be wearing one sarong item.

Organised by Random Alphabets, this is the second year running that they are holding the “flashmob”. It is happening this Saturday, February 23rd at 3pm.

Meet-up points have just been revealed and revellers can join in at Titiwangsa LRT Station or Pudu LRT Station on the Ampang Line. Information about routes and the day’s activity will be revealed further on this Saturday itself.

“Last year’s event saw a kebaya group and this year we want to see more different styles,” said Zain HD from Random Alphabets in a report by The Star. “Wear your sarong with a white shirt, a football jersey or even a cosplay outfit. Come as a sarong-clad Jedi or a sarong ninja.”

Yup, that’s right! Be as creative as possible and get your friends and family to join in the fun.

You are encouraged to tell your “sarong stories” on a paper and hold it up during the event. Pictures taken will be posted up on www.keretapisarong.posterous.com and Random Alphabets’ FB page.

This year, planned chapters are also in the works for London, Melbourne, Washington DC, Boston and Philadelphia.
