After the whole Ikea-Horse Gate drama that shocked the world and made many, many Malaysians sad as they pulled out the very popular Swedish Meatballs off the menu – we can now breathe a sigh of relief. Yup, the meatballs are back..utmärkt!
Malaysians can relax now as the meatballs, which were feared to contain horse meat after the shocking discovery was made by food inspectors in Europe – are not the same as the European Köttbullar.
Ikea has released a statement saying that our local meatballs are made in Malaysia and contain only Halal-certified beef – hurrah!
This follows the release of the DNA results done by a local independent lab that has given the green light to our favourite Swedish import. Thus (we totally just used this word), this popular dish will be brought back to the Ikea Restaurant and Swedish Food Market starting from March 8, 2013.
To celebrate this momentous event, head on to Ikea on March 8 for a one-day celebratory deal; it’s all meatballs-go at 20sens a piece. Race you to it, folks!
