The battle for ownership of Sabah has gone from unnecessary bloodshed to cyberspace as the daughter of the self-proclaimed Sultan of Sulu, Princess Jacel Kiram, opened up a Twitter account on March 13.
Using the handle @jacelkiram, she kickstarted her account with calls of ‘Long Live the Sultanate of Sulu’.
In less than 24 hours, she has gained 2,218 followers, is following 5 people (JLo is one of them), and has tweeted 9 times.
She then took to retweeting some of her supportive fans, but chose to reply only a couple of disgruntled tweets by angry Malaysians.
It remains unclear as to how many of her followers are actually supporters of the Sulu Sultanate, but one thing’s for sure – Malaysians are taking to the keyboard to express and vent out their frustrations to the horrific events that have unfolded over the past month.
Even politicians are taking to Twitter to ensure all grounds are covered:
Perhaps this incident – as unwanted as it is, is what we need to feel united again as a nation. We strongly pray for the bloodshed to stop and hope that it’s not too late for things to end peacefully.
