In Part 1 of our 10 pop-culture references for Halloween 2013 – we mentioned heavyweights of the year such as Miley, Robin Thicke and his dancers, the cute Minions and we wondered what the Fox says.
For Part 2, we’ll pay homage to one of the year’s biggest TV shows, the Korean wave (aka Hallyu), and even throw you a surprise ‘Malaysian’ bonus at the end!
#6 – Candy Crush
Candy and Halloween go hand in hand which makes this the perfect costume for the year. The game that definitely took the world by storm, and had some of us even checking in to rehab can be interpreted into many ways. Go as the characters in Candy Crush; the little blonde girl with pigtails and a huge red bow hairband (we love this one from Sereni & Shentel). For the finishing touch, get your Candy Crush manicure did!
#7 – Breaking Bad
Without a doubt, Breaking Bad is one of the biggest TV shows this year and thankfully, the looks are pretty simple to replicate. Do You Remember has a good reference, and here are two of our favourites:
#8 – Korean Pop / Hallyu Wave
The K-pop phenomena is a smorgasbord of Halloween ideas because well, there’s reslly something for everyone.
Jokesters can go as Psy (pastel or bright coloured suits, sleeveless shirts, untied bow ties, rounded sunnies) and dance all night long, G-Dragon provides an infinite amount of possibilities (just check out his One Of A Kind and Crayon music videos for inspirations) , and girls can choose any girl band image they want: sexy, cute, edgy..or just G-Dragon it as a girl.
#9 – Lady Gaga
What K-pop had to offer as a collective, Lady Gaga can do as a one (wo)man show. We’re not even talking about her entire career, just looks from the latest Artpop should suffice.
From Venus to her smeared painted face, it all depends on your level of commitment in terms of sourcing an outfit.
The simplest (besides pasting seashells on your naughty bits) would be to cut out a circle in the middle of a white manila card/board for your head, wear a long white gown or cotton bath robe, and lay on the pearls to imitate her opening performance at the VMA’s. Crazy eyes and smile not optional. Pretty creepy innit?
This guy has the right idea.
#10 – Britney Spears
Britney’s back b*tches, and what better way to celebrate the return of her fab body and dance moves than to get your girlfriends to dress up as all our favourite iconic Britneys since she first walked into our lives in 1999?
That’s right, she did it again.
But if you’re wanting a dose of Malaysian humour…
