The city life sinks in, and you’re in need for a quick getaway. The clear blue islands are somewhat too far, and you’ve had enough of the commercialized Cameron and Genting Highlands. This time, it’s a change of heart. You’re looking for something new and graceful, a place where you can hide and breakaway from the anxiety of the concrete jungle.

Let me introduce to you the breathtaking charm of English countryside found in our very own home, Ye Olde Smokehouse, Fraser’s Hill. Why the need to travel so far, when we have it just right here, a resort decorated with English furniture and antiques, complemented by the chilly weather and a real log wood fireplace to warm you. I kid you not, this feels unbelievably surreal.

Also known as the ” Little England “, Fraser’s Hill is 100km away from Kuala Lumpur city, and that would be around 2 hours drive by car. It is named after a Scottish explorer and trader James Louis Fraser who started tin mining and operated a primitive mule train activities in 1890s until the first decade of the twentieth century. However, the Fraser’s legacy came to an abrupt end when he went missing in 1900. In 1910, Bishop Ferguson Davie of Singapore combed the mountains in search of Fraser which proved fruitless but had on the other hand discovered a perfect hill resort and Fraser’s fate still remains a mystery till today.

Only spending RM280++ for a lovely bedroom as seen above, you are able to wake up to the birds chirping and morning dew the next day, not to mention on a heavenly bed. Ahh, what more can you ask for? Such blissfulness, topped with the authentic English breakfast served by the smokehouse. As tranquility submerged with the beauty of the nature, all your worries and fluster are gone far away.

After the hearty and satisfying breakfast, you head on for more breath of fresh air and fitness. A nature walk it is. There are eight well known trails, however only four are still open for public. They are Bishop Trail, Hemmant Trail, Rompin Trail and Abu Suradi Trail. Perfect for nature lovers who enjoy birdwatching and animal spotting.

As for the rest of the day, you have all the time to chill and relax, appreciate the nature around you, and take a sweet short nap. Of course, a highland trip is not complete without some afternoon cream tea with homemade scones, strawberry jam and a pot of tea. In other words, you obviously must give them delicious scones a try!

Then comes the best part. Dinner by the hill in the balcony of the smokehouse, served together with a bottle of wine. Mmm, perfect for a mini-honeymoon or a even quality family night, no?

Dying to go already? Do not worry. If you can’t wait, mean time you can have a synthetic version of this. Hop on by to Smokehouse Restaurant & Bar, Bangsar Telawi for tea on a delightful Sunday afternoon. :)

Remember to come back for more! ;)
