Yes, we’re all back from the joyous Chinese New Year break, so joyful that all of us were binging away the whole week!
I mean, its only once in a year, it is a great excuse for all of us to indulge in the irresistible delicacies of this festive season. Some of us with great discipline did manage to eat in moderation and shed some fat along the way, however most of us on the other hand, ended up having trouble fitting into our clothes this morning.
Now, what’s next? The big Valentine’s Day is just two weeks away! Don’t worry, it’s never too late. Slumber time is over, it’s time to shape up, stay fit, and live healthy again!
Here are some really simple baby steps to kick off the healthy living lifestyle.
1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
H20 can do wonders. We constantly need water to moisturize our body and most importantly our skin. Water is the cheapest, simplest way to curb appetite and keep your body functioning properly. “If you’re dehydrated, your metabolism may slow down,” Add slices of lemon, lime, cucumber, fresh ginger or a few drops of juice to make it more appealing. – ivillage.com
2. Many but small meals.
Believe it or not, but it is actually fine to have 5 meals per day. However, note that the trick is to have small and light meals. Meals such as greek yogurt and fruits, omelet and salad, whole grain bread / pasta, turkey & avocado sandwich, and brown rice. Meals that are just enough to sustain you from hunger. Remember, in each meal that you consume, make sure you only feed your stomach until it is 70 percent full.
Yes, that’s right. This means throwing away all your favorite chocolates, potato chips, candies and even biscuits. Time for a change, stick to healthy food. Carrots, apples, grapes, berries, cherry tomatoes are highly recommended.
4. Sufficient amount of rest is key.
As explained earlier in our article - How much sleep do you really need, not only sufficient amount of sleep is crucial, knowing what is the right time to sleep is also very important. Without rest, our body would not function to its maximum potential. Our bodies have a daily detoxification schedule that automatically runs from 11pm-3am if we are asleep. So, sleeping later than 11pm means you give your bodies less time to do its work.
5. Stay active!
Stay active! Climb the stairs, walk your dog, play Wii with your little brother, and do your own chores. You will be surprised by how amazing these small efforts can make a big change. If the market is just 5 minutes away, save some fuel and walk walk walk!
6. Exercise!
Last but not least, if you want to stay fit and lose weight, you can’t run away from exercise! You need to sweat it all out, the fats and the toxins got to go!
Be it Yoga & Pilates, or training at the gym, or even dancing it off in the privacy of your own room, exercise is essential. Therefore, find something that suits you best, and stick to it, make sure working out becomes part of your life and try to do it at least 3 times a week.
Good luck!
