” Once you have women liberated, it’s amazing how many other problems get resolved. Poverty, education, health. Women are the key in any community. ” – Desmond Tutu

Food for thought: Imagine yourself being forced to marry a man you’ve never met and whom you hardly know of. What would you do if your family give you away to a man who is probably old and abusive? Above all, how would you feel if you have to engage in sexual relations with a man whom you are not in love with?

Each year, 10 million girls spreading across Africa, both North and South America, Asia and Europe, all under the age of 18 are faced with the nightmare of child marriage. Silently and alone, these girls have no choice, no support and most importantly, no voice to speak up for themselves.

We came across this stirring video on Girl Up and we would like to share it with you.

Let’s highlight this:  ” How can you improve girls’s education when they are taken out from school to get married? How can you reduce poverty when child marriage perpetuates poverty? “

So, how can you participate in this movement? How can you, as an individual, help curb this crime?

Three simple steps :

1. Support the International Protecting Girls by Preventing Child Marriage Act.

2. Sign the petition to end Child Marriage : Petition to end Child Marriage

3. Raise awareness on child marriage, spread the word, share this article, and share the video.

You can make a change. You can make this world a better place. If you deserve a happy and rightful marriage, she deserves it too.
