Fuss-free cleansing oil for makeup newbies

What is it? A lightweight cleansing oil that leaves skin clean, fresh and refined.

For? Normal to oily skin conditions, including sensitive and acne-prone.

Claims? Effectively removes make-up and impurities inside pores while maintaining moisture levels.

Usage? Start with dry hands and face, pump 1-2 pumps of oil unto hands. Spread on face and massage into skin for about 30 secs. Add a few drops of water to emulsify (oil will turn milky) and continue massaging. Rinse off completely.

Wake up, put on my makeup- that’s me on most mornings, but what do I use to remove it at the end of the day? My current preferred method is using cleansing oils. They cleanse more thoroughly (oil dissolves oil) and yet does not strip skin of natural oils so there is no tight squeaky feeling after each wash. Shu Uemura is famous for their cleansing oils; after all, they are the pioneers of marketing this formulation. The latest addition to their range is the Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil.

Empowered with Sakura complex which has anti-inflammatory properties to reduce skin irritation and redness, Lipo HA (a salicylic acid derivative) and Cherry extract (a natural AHA) for gentle exfoliation to refine and improve skin texture. This cleansing oil feels very different from the others I have tried: it is more runny, not gloopy and glides on my face easily. With cleansing oils, you usually have to start with dry hands and skin but this version from Shu Uemura is a first – it works well with dry or wet hands. It completely removes my waterproof eyeliner, foundation, blusher, everything on my face! As with the other oils I have used, this oil also unplugged my blackheads as I massaged, kind of gross but satisfying at the same time. I always follow up with a milk or foam cleanser, but that is a personal choice, you actually don’t need to if you rinse well. The sakura scent is really relaxing and comforting – someone even asked me what I had on my face because of the scent. My skin feels soft, fresh and clean after using this, no residue whatsoever.

I have tried many cleansing oils and this one gets two thumbs up for its scent and also because I can still use it if I accidentally wet my hands. It is very important to massage cleansing oils into your skin properly and give it time to dissolve the oil on your face before emulsifying. Failure to do so would most definitely leave you with an oily residue and breakouts. I found out the hard way! If you have never used a cleansing oil or if you have tried them but you experienced a break out, get a Sales Assistant to show you how to use it properly- chances are you have been using it the wrong way.

Shu Uemura Fresh Cleansing Oil is priced at RM110 for 150ml / RM270 for 450ml and is available at all Shu Uemura counters.
