Why Breakfast is Important

Well, first of all, unless you get up at 1p.m., breakfast is probably the first meal that you are going to have. It provides you with fuel and nutrients to kick start the day, and ensures that you do not stall in the mornings. Assuming that you’ve had  a good eight hours of sleep, your body has also been starved for that duration. So eating is really like breaking the fast you had been on throughout the night, and sending a message to your body, essentially saying, “Here’s some fuel, now get ready to work.”

But we don’t mean grabbing an apple and rushing out the door. We mean sitting down and enjoying a bowl of cereal, or maybe a crunchy green salad. Studies have shown that people who skip breakfast tend to eat more the next chance they get — foiling any intentions of losing weight by skipping breakfast. As a matter of fact, having breakfast will get your metabolism going and will actually be more beneficial for weight loss, as you tend to make unhealthy food choices when starving.

Include plenty of fibre and protein in your breakfast, this will ensure you feel full until lunchtime. Try not to rush through breakfast. Instead, aim to get up a little earlier so you can enjoy the meal. Mornings are always sidelined, but so crucial to the making or breaking of our day.

Have you had your breakfast today?
