Adele: Hot or Not?

Truth be told, she probably doesn’t care what you think of her figure. No, not even if legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld, head of Chanel and Fendi, called her fat. “She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice,” he told Metro Paris. He apologized later

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins’ career began as early as 2006, when her friend posted a demonstration of her singing on Myspace. She was later offered a recording contract by XL Recordings and released her debut album, 19, which was certified four times platinum with top single ‘Chasing Pavements’. Her second album, 21, was released just last year and has earned her many mentions in the Guinness Book of World Records:

  • The album won the Grammy for Album of the Year.
  • She is the first artist to sell more than 3 million copies of an album in a year in the UK.
  • With her two albums and the first two singles from 21, “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You”, Adele became the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the UK Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since the Beatles in 1964.
  • With her third release from the album, “Set Fire to the Rain”, becoming her third number one single in the US, Adele became the first artist in history to lead the Billboard 200 concurrently with three Billboard Hot 100 number ones.
  • 21 is the longest running number one album by a female solo artist on the UK Albums Chart[15] and is tied for the longest cumulative stay at number one by a female solo artist as well.
  • In 2011, Billboard named Adele artist of the year.

Not forgetting of course, how she swept the floor with every other artiste at the Grammys winning a whopping 6 awards.

Why? As Lagerfeld put it, she does have “a divine voice”. “I don’t make music for eyes. I make music for ears,” says the singer, commenting on how she doesn’t want to exploit her body for her career, a path less travelled by many notable female singers – all she needs is her voice. And it’s not only the hip generation that likes her voice, even aunties would tune into her songs and connect.

Maybe it’s the way she reminds us of how we once silently wished for the someone we let go, or the feisty notion of reminding the ex how you could have had it all, had he not played up. To actually bring that message across to the soul, however, requires more than just melancholic words, and Adele has the voice capable of spinning heartbreak into gold.

While Adele says she feels comfortable in her skin, she does not deny the fact that she is, how should we put it, curvaceous.

“I enjoy being me,” said Adele. “I always have.

“I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I don’t want that in my life. I have insecurities, of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.”

And that’s what we like about her. Inspirational.
