Study: Women Tend To Have More Extra-Marital Lovers

Yesterday, we talked about dating married men. Today, it was reported that married women tend to have more lovers if they choose to be adulterous.

The UK Adultery Survey 2012 showed that once a woman decides to cheat, she is more likely to go prowling in search of love compared to unfaithful men.

It was reported, the reason men cheat is because they crave for sexual excitement, are bored with their marriage and need an ego boost. But, women on the whole listed romance, needing to improve self-esteem and emotional fulfilment as the main reasons for straying.

The research was carried out with 4,000 self-professed adulterers and it was discovered that women have an average of 2.3 secret lovers. Thus, putting them ahead of men in the promiscuity level where they averaged at 1.8 mistresses.

In a marriage, women are more likely to be the first to think about cheating at about five years after getting hitched while for men, this happens at the six-year mark.

These liaisons also showed the differences of the psyche in men and women. Female adulterers are significantly more likely to fall in love with their illicit lovers compared to male adulterers. A total of 57 per cent of the female participants said they are in love with their current extra-marital partners whereas for the male participants, only 27 per cent of them reported feeling that way towards their lovers.

All is not lost though, 76 per cent of the female adulterers from the survey reported still loving their spouse. But it was a slightly different scenario with male adulterers, just 67 per cent of them still cared for their other half.

London 2012 Olympics: The Fashion Torch Battle

While the flame is on its way from Athens to London; fashion royalties are striving to win the battle. Who will get the honour of bearing the fashion torch?

The ever-stylish city is hosting Olympics in a couple of months’ time, starting on July 27, and the world is up for more than a sporting treat. The Olympics flame has just been passed from Athens to London representatives, and is now on its way to its new home. The journey to London 2012 has officially begun.

Before the world gets to witness Usain Bolt in action, the fashion world is buzzing with high fashion designers and their winning squad uniforms. So far, it is an English Stella McCartney vs Italian Giorgio Armani battle. American Ralph Lauren is up next. On the other ring, Duchess Kate shines with barely any competition in sight after kicking off the London 2012 Olympics’ countdown last week alongside husband Prince William.

Last month, British designer Stella McCartney revealed her winning sports kit for Team Great Britain in style, marking the first ever high fashion designer to design the Olympic kit. The British flag-inspired Adidas collection was launched after two full years of designing. Great details, a McCartney’s thing, are present in the aerodynamic, body-hugging uniforms.

Playing up the forms of simple layers, her style is showcased in tennis and hockey skirts and waist-defining tie belt for the ladies’ podium jackets. Track and field athlete Jessica Ennis, world #4 tennis player Andy Murray, and Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell are among the models for Team Great Britain uniform collection. Stella McCartney is very careful as to not over-feminising the men as well.

‘I made the flag less strident, more delicate, but then of course I had to be careful not to over feminise the men,’ the lady explained.

A sports fanatic at heart, Armani regards his sports designing foray as ‘intriguing to step out of my fashion comfort zone’.The Italian squad will don the elegant midnight blue and white ensemble of a tracksuit with an asymmetric closure, T-shirts, running shoes, shorts, suitcases, a nylon jacket and the country’s national flag-inspired polo shirt.

While we are still sitting on the edge of our seats until Ralph Lauren reveals his Olympic Village and the closing ceremony attires for the American team, Duchess Kate is shining through in her own quiet battle. The newly-crowned royalty is fast becoming a British style icon, even significantly boosting the country’s upcoming Olympics event with her versatile style.

Makeup for Noobs : 5 Items to Get You Started

A lot of times we hear women saying, “I’d like to try using some makeup, but I don’t know where to begin!” – and we don’t blame them. The market is over-saturated with hundreds and hundreds of brands and products, all claiming to be able to work wonders for your self-esteem and beauty.

From an array of eyeshadows ranging from purple to yellow, various lip colours and textures, and never ending list of primers and foundations – where does one start?

We say keep to the basics, and build your collection over time. Find out how much time you are willing to spend on your daily beauty regime from 5-minutes to a full hour, as your outcome will differ based on the amount of effort you put in.

Now before we begin, let’s just clarify that there’s nothing wrong with a woman in all her natural glory – beauty does indeed come from within and all that good stuff, but honestly everyone could benefit from the right amount of makeup. I’m sure gorgeous natural beauties such as Jennifer, Eva, and Beyonce would agree with us!

Now that that’s out of the way, here are our essentials to start off your journey in to the beautiful world of pretty cosmetics!

1. Foundation

As with all works of art, you need to have a good base to kick off. Think about it, it would be pointless to paint your walls without first applying a primer, as your paint will not last and will apply unevenly.

Always apply moisturiser before putting makeup on to your face to create a layer in between the products and also to avoid dry, cracked skin to show through your makeup – this often leads to the term ‘caked on’. You want your makeup to look as natural as possible, and not like you’ve got heaps of products on!

Depending on your skin – if you have a lot of red or patchy uneven skin, get a foundation that is a little heavier and can offer better coverage. For those blessed with flawless skin, a sheer tinted moisturiser should do the trick.

2. Powder

To seal it in and avoid makeup from sliding, gently press in facial powder that’s closest to your skin colour with a large soft brush.

Ladies, another big tip when choosing your foundation and powder colour: ALWAYS choose one that’s closest to your skin colour, and at most step up only one to two shades lighter/darker. The last thing you want is for an ashy white face while the rest of your body is a healthy shade of brown. White, black, brown, olive, or yellow – be proud of your skin colour, girl!

3. Eyeshadow

For a starter kit, we highly recommend getting a neutral palette with various shades of browns, blacks and off-whites. The Urban Decay Naked palette (both 1 and 2) or Too Faced’s Natural Eye Palette provides you with a good start, as you can easily take your look from day to night by merely layering your eyeshadow.

The Urban Decay Naked palette even comes with an eyeshadow primer and free application brush to help pat that eyeshadow on perfectly!

Apply the darkest colour on your lid, and the lightest colour under your eyebrows as a highlight. Blend the two colours with a mid-brown for that beautiful smokey-eye effect that is universally great for every woman.

Add a touch of shimmery eyeshadow to the inner corner of your eyes (near the tear duct) for an instant eye-freshener!

4. Eye liner

Eye liners are a must have as they get rid of any unsightly wrinkles and ‘tighten’ the eyes for a more exotic, seductive look. For the day, it’s recommended that you use pencil liners as they are less harsh. Take the look to dramatic heights for the evening by drawing on sexy cat-eye with a liquid liner – however, this could require more practice and a very stable hand!

If you don’t particularly want to end up looking like a Kardashian, opt of brown eyeliners instead of black for a more subtle look as seen here on Jessica Alba.

5. Lip colour

For beginners, you need to first decide if you’re a shimmer girl or not!

If you like shimmers, we suggest going in the direction of lip gloss – a nice neutral pink with brown undertones is always the safest, and will ensure that your lips look full, plump and juicy with every application.

If you prefer something less loud, opt for a lipstick with more red or deeper pink undertones. If you don’t want it to look super painted on, what we like to do is apply colour to the center part of your lips (both top and bottom), and using our pinky finger, evenly spread out the lipstick so it becomes more of a stain and provides you with just the right amount of colour to your face.

Nike Cortez Celebrates 40th Anniversary

The iconic Cortez was the first running shoe created by Nike in 1972 and has since grown into a popular choice of street wear.

This year marks a significant milestone in Nike as the Cortez range is celebrated for its 40 years of lasting appeal. To commemorate this special occasion, Nike has commissioned 40 artists from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines to put their take on the classic shoes.

From Malaysia, we have eight artists stamping their mark for the Cortez 40/40 Project. VenusBuzz.com was at the heart of the party last night to witness the unveiling.

The likes of Stephen Lau, Irman Hilmi (of Grafa), Bombshelter Studios, Dead Mojo (of Phobia Klik), Marini Ramlan, Shieko Reto, Lynda Chean (of Pink Tattoos) and May Chan are having their ‘Swoosh’ art pieces on showcase at Juice, Bangsar.

This is something worth checking out, dear sneaker heads! You can get a glimpse of the shoes at the Cortez 40/40 KL event on Sat, May 19th from 7.30pm onwards but do note, this is by invitation only.

Also, as part of the 40th birthday, Sole What has joined forces with Nike to create a pair of limited edition Cortez. The NikeiD Cortez comes in a clear box with a special Sole What t-shirt thrown in as well. Psstt, we were told that there is a very limited quantity available and you can only purchase them at the Cortez 40/40 KL event this Saturday.

Proceeds from the sale will go to Dignity for Children, a charity organisation which aims to break the cycle of poverty by providing education for the young.

A brief history

Nike Cortez was first designed by Nike co-founder, Bill Bowerman who was also a track and field coach. His inspiration came after he saw the dire need for a comfortable and durable running shoe for distance training and road running.

Nike Cortez was released during the hype of the 1972 Olympics and it rapidly gained interest among the public with sales reaching $800,000 (RM2.5 mil) in the first year alone. Thus, this officially paved the way for Nike Inc. on the road of popularity and turned it into a multi-billion dollar business.

Fashion Friday: Killer DIY Items for The Born This Way Ball

Whether you are going as Mama Monster or your usual self – you will not disappoint with these DIY items.

It is going to be an out-of-worldly musical and fashion experience, and every Little Monster knows this by heart. There have been cases of Little Monsters dressing up just to queue for tickets! This year, Lady Gaga’s looks turn more mature and are predominantly black in colour. Classic strong brow + red lips makeup combo is often seen while her outfits focus on one striking detail at a time (feather, metallic shoulder pad, huge circle skirt). Only her signature futuristic sunglasses and architectural headgears remain. But Mama Monster brings it all in for The Born This Way Ball tour, with Giorgio Armani being her main designer for the huge event.

The meat dress, the skeleton face, the lightning strike face painting, the can curled hair… you get the idea, the list of ‘what-Little-Monsters-have-worn-to-imitate-Gaga’ could go on for the next 5 minutes. Excitement can turn into problems when you are neither a goth nor an eclectic. No, don’t resort to the ‘I (heart) Lady Gaga’ t-shirts. The key is to wear a showstopping item you made, and keep the rest of the outfit ‘you’.

Royalty stick

Remember the mighty metal/diamond stick with round spiky ball Gaga don to the Grammys? Find one at the antique shop and it will be multifunctional; to make way for yourself among the crazy crowd and of course, as an instant fashion statement among others. Dip the ball in glitter and hold it high in the air every time you experience Gaga-sm.

Loud shoes

Gaga and impossible Louboutin shoes have become synonymous, but it’ll be a major trouble to attempt wearing them to the ball. Unless, you want to be slapped by another monster or stand still like a sculpture while the others are jumping around in the mosh pit. Our solution is to spray-paint your low-heeled ankle boots or combat boots metallic. Loud and comfortable – check!

Veil

Mama Monster has a thing for veil, be it facial or bridal. Turn your hairnet or black mesh top into a face veil to cover your face. Don’t forget to apply the strong brow and red lips beforehand. For bride veil, source one from the wedding boutique and bleach it with multiple colours for a striking look.

DIY sunglasses

What is Lady Gaga without her sunglasses. Although she has been gracing fashion editorial pages with delicate makeup in full-frontal poses, the sunglasses remain her staples. To re-create the video-lensed sunglasses she wore, you shall decide: splurge or skimp? If you are to go all out, attach a digital photo frame to a lens-less black glasses. For those who prefer one-off option, simply colour print and paste any image of Gaga that you like on the front side of your sunglasses. Better still if you create a mini collage with the 2 lenses as its ‘board’. Granted, your vision will be limited but what can’t a Little Monster conquer?

Extravagant headgears

Take any structured or uniquely-shaped house deco (think lamp cap, brass cutleries, or a wooden triangular plate) and don it on your head like it is always meant to be there. It’s a good idea to stroll around IKEA to find the appropriate deco piece for your head.

Piece of Cake : Ruffles and Rosettes (Ep.2)

This week, Satira demonstrates simple yet beautiful techniques to frost your cake by imitating pretty ruffles – making this the perfect design for wedding and bridal shower cakes!

What you’ll need for your Ruffle Buttercream Cake:

1. A vanilla or buttercake

2. Buttercream tinted in pink (or any color of your choice, pastel hues are usually the best)

3. Piping bag

4. Petal tip nozzle

5. Baking paper (for practice)

6. A cake stand or lazy susan

7. Sugar pearls or flower for a finishing touch

(For the Mini Rosettes Cake, the ingredients are the same as above except use a star tip nozzle and add on pearls and several pieces of butterfly fondant to enhance the look)

When we think of wedding dresses, we think of beautifully draped material and light chiffony ruffles for that tiered effect and so when we watched this episode we couldn’t help but melt in excitement at all the possibilities this simple trick can create!

What’s great is that you can experiment with a few different colours and end up with a very pretty ombre cake.

Satira goes on to say that we should, “Explore the many different sizes and shapes of nozzles that you can get from baking stores.”

She also recommends trying out the ruffles on a baking paper first until you’re confident of getting the shape you want on the actual cake.

Somehow we feel this would also be a good trick for a Van-Gogh ‘Starry Night’-inspired cake too!

We’re totally inspired! We may not be doing our waistlines any favours, but we’d take the ruffley cake over the ruffley wedding dress anyday!

Beer kakis, this sounds like your kind of haven! Brewfest 2012 is happening from May 17th – 19th at Publika Solaris Dutamas.

You are invited to sing, dance, taste and toast to over 50 varieties of international premium and craft beers on offer at the festival.

At the media launch yesterday, VenusBuzz.com was given a chance to sample a few of the beers and boy, what an experience it was! A quick tour of the area showed some exquisite brews from England, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, Australia, Japan and the United States. Whether you like yours out of a bottle, can or straight from the tap, you will get to try them here.

After the shocking firing of the beloved trio Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel, and Miss J (J. Alexander) from the sensational modeling reality show last month – Tyra wasted no time and revealed the new America’s Next Top Model new judges starting season 19. Sculpted exotic male model Rob Evans is coming aboard, as well as rather unknown celebrity stylist Johnny Wujek. The two adams complete the 4-judge panel consisting of Tyra Banks and PR maven Kelly Cutrone.

Hunky British-Irish Rob Evans is ranked #17 on Models.com’s Top 50 Male Models list, and hinted that he might flirt with Tyra on season 19. Pretentious, much? But ah, anyone can melt hearts and get away with sexy Brit accent. If Rob looks familiar, perhaps it’s because you have seen him in Madonna’s ‘Girl Gone Wild’ music video – yeap, he’s the one dancing in the ‘Vogue’ heels.

The low profile Johnny Wujek plays stylist to Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj. On ANTM, he will replace Jay to guide models through tricky shoots and challenges. Also, hold the crying models’ hands during makeover sessions. Johnny is a former model who somehow stays under the radar although often hangs out with the likes of Mischa Barton.

The new season itself, season 19, will feature students from different educational paths – from beauty schools to normal four-year colleges. The theme is inspired by Tyra’s recent graduation from Harvard Business School. Viewers will also be able to cast their votes online and help determine the elimination choices starting next season.

Donna Summer dies of cancer at 63

Disco diva Donna Summer passed away at the age of 63 after losing a long battle with lung cancer on May 17, 2012.

The platinum recording artist and 5-time Grammy winner whose hits such as “She Works Hard for the Money” dominated the airwaves and defined the dance music era in the 70s and 80s, is believed to have passed away in Florida.

Donna’s family released a statement, stating they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.”

“Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time,” the statement read.

Celebrities and fans of the singer have taken to social networks to express their grief in honouring the legendary artiste.

Our thoughts go out to Donna Summer’s family and one thing’s for sure, this won’t be our last dance tonight. We love you, Donna <3

The Case of Dating a Married Man

Ahh the moral dilemmas of being in love with the wrong one. But could he be the right one?

We’ve all heard the stories of a friend of a friend of a friend, we’ve seen the TV dramas surrounding this hot topic, we know how badly this will end, yet why do some women still want to date the married man?

The affairs of the heart is never simple. Is it the thrill of going out with the forbidden one? Or is it more a case of wanting something or someone you can’t have?

Gone too deep

Sandra, 31, accounts exec shares she has been with not one but two married men before. “It’s not that I haven’t tried to date ‘normal’ men, it just didn’t work out. They were just not serious enough, I was turned off by their habits and behaviours. I can’t explain this without sounding like a total b***h but I like married men because they are more stable and serious. I’m very attracted to these qualities.”

She went on to explain that her first encounter with a married man happened when she was still in college and he was 10 years older. She likened him to be her first true love, they shared a common interest for food and he would often take her on food escapades. He offered her what every woman look for in a relationship – love, stability and confidence. But by the time she found out that he was married, she had gotten in too deep. It took her an abortion and five years to shake her off him but the feelings remain.

What’s surprising, or not, is that this experience did not shied her away from dating married men, in fact like all first love, the memory stays and affects future relationships.

Delusion or in love?

The case with Sandra is that her “right” one happens to be married. She is currently with a man who is stuck in a loveless marriage and in the process of getting a divorce. Sandra said they both felt the instant attraction the moment they met. She was introduced to him and the wife through a mutual friend. When probed whether she feels guilty about the relationship while being friendly with the wife, she says no and believes this thing just happens.

So, why is it that woman like Sandra feels it’s ok to date another woman’s husband?

There’s a theory called “mate poaching” whereby women are more likely to find a male more attractive if she has seen him in the company of another female. Research suggests that we take our cue about a man’s attractiveness from another woman. Whether it’s about a good challenge or otherwise, we tend to like a man who is taken because his qualities have been proven to be good enough for another woman.

Some may argue that you can’t help who you fall in love with but surely, there must be some boundaries when it comes to married men/women?

The vow

Sure, it is not fair to point the finger at the fairer sex alone and some men are equally to be blamed. They say it takes two hands to clap, so isn’t it more so in a marriage if you were to make your union last?

A marriage is supposed to be sacred between a man and a woman. The vows you promised each other must mean something, right? Yet, the divorce statistics is getting higher each year and we are left wondering if some of these numbers are because of infidelity and ‘the other woman’?

There are many reasons why people fall in and out of love. And there are cases of partners falling out after just a year of marriage and for that, it is just unfortunate, one that we will have to leave for further discussion in another post.

At the end of the day, respect and honour the bond of a marriage. A bit of innocent flirtation should not lead to something serious which would end up hurting all the parties involved. It is worth remembering the choices you make will determine the kind of life you lead.
