Ministry of Information bans Erykah Badu concert in Malaysia due to cultural and religious sensitivities
Datuk Seri Utama Rais Yatim has made an official announcement on his Twitter that there will be no Erykah Badu concert in KL tomorrow (29/02).
On his Twitter page, the Information Minister mentioned ‘religious sensitivity’ and ‘Malaysian cultural values’ as the cancellation causes.
The Erykah Badu concert has been cancelled for failing to meet the requirements by the Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (PUSPAL) as it touches on religious sensitivity and Malaysian cultural values.
Home Ministry has called 3 editors from the English daily, The Star, over the publication of Erykah Badu’s picture in the said newspaper yesterday (27/02) which shows ‘Allah’ tattoos on the songstress’ arms.
It is obvious that Erykah Badu’s tattoo is an issue amongst Malaysians based on the poll that Venusbuzz ran. About half believe that the tattoo is a religious symbol and the other half believing that tattoo is just a form of art.
