We look into the star attraction behind The Vow, 21 Jump Street, and his past as a male stripper – Channing Tatum is the man to watch!
Who is this Channing?
Born in Alabama, Channing Tatum grew up in a middle-class working family. He has always been athletic, with a history in football, soccer, baseball, and martial arts since high school. His entertainment career started off with him auditioning for a dancer position in Ricky Martin’s video ‘She Bangs’. Soon after, he was scouted as a fashion model who signed with Beatrice Model agency in Milan and Ford Models in New York City. However, Channing’s leap of faith came after his cameo in an episode of CSI: Miami – the time when he decided to act full time. This decision proved to be the right move with starring roles in Step Up, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Dear John, and this year’s box office entries The Vow and 21 Jump Street.
6 Reasons to scream ‘Eye Want Channing!’
6. He knows his ‘assets’ well
While it is typical of eye candies to claim they weren’t aware of their bodily assets, Channing Tatum seemed to know it all along. Money shortage brought him to be ‘adventurous’ and he tried stripping for extra pocket money. Granted, he now addresses it as a kiddy thing to earn money. But we say, it doesn’t hurt to have a little more faith in yourself than anyone else does.
“Get some sh*t job that you’re really going to have to bust your hump for. Or you can try something else a little crazy.”
5. He is one funny guy
It is a known fact that Channing Tatum is well-loved by his co-workers and crew on the set for he never runs out of funny ideas. His latest prank included rubbing his bare butt on co-star Jonah Hill’s face while he was fast asleep on a flight. A GQ feature described his laugh as ‘a boyish, highly contagious stream of actual tee-hee-hee‘s.. he’s one good looking tickle-me-elmo’. Good looking AND doesn’t spend all the time in the world thinking about how to look good! Hmmm, Robert Pattinson who?
4. Dance, drama, action, comedy – he is one versatile actor
Some of us fell for him during his ‘Step Up’ days with Jenna Dewan. It is amazing to see how his career has developed ever since. Superhero role on ‘G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra’ fits him like a glove, and his puppy eyes melt us girls on dramas like ‘Dear John’ and make us want to watch ‘The Vow’. His latest comedy ’21 Jump Street’ tops the box office in the opening week too! Channing Tatum has got people talking about his bright acting future.
3. Because we are so jealous of his oh-so-perfect love story
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan brought the on-screen love story in ‘Step Up’ to real life. The couple got engaged in 2008 and he made her ‘Jenna Dewan-Tatum’ in 2009. There has never been rumours of infidelity throughout this low-key celebrity marriage. Jenna & Channing created a production company together with their 3 friends called 33 & Out Productions, Inc.
2. Because he will strip (again!) on Magic Mike
His fascinating past as an excellent stripper in Florida will be hitting the big screen later this year. Channing Tatum portrays himself (a stripper named Mike) in the movie, with Alex Pettyfer as a newbie stripper under his wings. We are certainly looking forward to see those yummy muscles covered only in thongs!
1. He is the real deal
A lot of good looking movie stars come and go, making their Hollywood fame a short-lived one. After all, veterans like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Johnny Depp stil reign as movie’s biggest names. However, critics have speculated that Channing Tatum will be the new breed of Hollywood superstar – good looking, versatile, funny, and well-loved by both females and males. This year, at least, will be his year with three blockbusters on the line.
‘In person, Tatum is surprisingly humble and honest, two qualities that are almost non-existent in Hollywood.’ – The New York Times
