BREAKING: Psy is Bringing Gangnam Style to Malaysia

Korean rapper Psy will be performing his iconic ‘Gangnam Style’ in conjunction with Future Music Festival Asia (FMFA) on 16 March 2013.

Are you ready to put on your best Gangnam moves? A gazillion Youtube parodies and impromptu flashmobs later – Psy himself is coming to Malaysia!

Psy is part of the lineup for the upcoming Future Music Festival Asia 2013, to be held on March 15-16 where over a million spectators are expected.

The two-part festival will see Armin van Buuren performing the special ‘A State of Trance 600: The Expedition World Tour’ on its first day (March 15) and the main ‘Future Music Festival ‘(March 16) with performances by Psy, Bloc Party, Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, The Temper Trap, FUN and more.

Local fans have been crossing their fingers after the oriental rapper was recently confirmed to be performing at the Future Music Festival Australia.

The FMFA organiser posted a photo of a pantsless Psy on their Facebook page three days ago, captioned: ‘Don’t get caught with your pants down. Make sure you’re watching this space or our Twitter (@FMFAsia) on Nov. 6 for the lineup!!’, hinting that the most sought-after rapper is grazing our shores.

Earlier in October, a Malaysian blog reported that a local corporation was seeking the opportunity to invite Psy to lead the line-up for ‘Hari Belia Negara 2013’ commemoration, however backed out at the mention of RM2.3million charged for a single ‘Gangnam Style’ performance.

Korean rapper Psy has turned from a comedic rapper into one of the world’s most wanted persona, having infected the Europeans and Americans with his horse-riding dance moves amidst ‘Gangnam Style’ being sung entirely in Korean.

‘Gangnam Style’ has been dominating Youtube chart since it was first released on Youtube, bagging more than 650million views up to date.

Recently, Psy even taught United Nations’ Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to dance the signature moves at the New York headquarters, after famously did so for Britney Spears on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He has also appeared on other iconic talk shows, including The Today Show and Saturday Night Live.

The 34-year-old rapper is now under the wings of American talent manager Scooter Braun, who is also Justin Bieber’s manager, following his global success. ‘Gangnam Style’ resided in the second spot of Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks and is nominated for Best Music Video at the MTV Europe Music Awards. At the moment, Psy is working on his second hit single which will be sung in English.

“The biggest problem I face when producing the second single is the pressure of beating ‘Gangnam Style’. I have to beat my own song to succeed,” said Psy in a recent interview with BBC.
