Fashion Friday: The Clutch Guide

This year, arm candy plays as important a role as your LBD.

If the shoulders could talk, they would have thanked us because lately, we haven’t been putting much weight on them – thanks to the steady clutch-as-day-bag fashion inclination. Clutch is undoubtedly the bag of the year, having received multiple facelifts; from the classic faux leather with wrist handle into the envelope, the boxy, the handled.. oh how the list keeps getting longer.

Welcoming the year’s most-awaited party season (December starts tomorrow yay!), we roundup chic clutches that would be perfect to spice up your LBDs, LWDs or any party dress at all.

1. The Sparkly Clutch

What better way to celebrate the merry season than to dash some glitter on our outfit of choice. The season’s sparkles make sequined clothing a must-have, and glittery items not only a thing for DIY divas.

Props to Jimmy Choo and his latest it bag Candy, a structured acrylic clutch in candy colours, that has been making rounds in Tinseltown with Kim Kardashian, Nikki Reed and many others spotted with it. Treat yourself to the latest glitter-finished edition as a reward for being an extra-hardworking girl this year, or opt for an equally fabulous affordable choices from H&M and Viss.

Products info: Jimmy Choo Candy clutch, approx. RM1,558. H&M glitter-finished clutch, RM39.90. Viss glitter clutch / bag, RM89.99

2. The Power Clutch

Box clutch is one of the biggest revolutionaries in the clutch history, as popularised by Alexander McQueen in 2007. The morbid-yet-beautiful skull box clutch has since inspired high fashion designers and high street brands, making it one of the most-seen evening bags of 2012.

This year-end, we adore the maroon Britannia in suede and diamanté finishing from the legendary label. For a grungy girl in you, Zara has something up your alley whilst those planning to wear a plain dress could opt for this show-stopping gold box clutch from LVW.

Products info: Alexander McQueen The Britannia Skull diamanté-studded suede box clutch, approx. RM5,403. Zara beaded box clutch, RM359. LVW Serena in gold, RM180

3. The Fringe Clutch

The trend is an homage to the Western fad that brings back cowboy boots and co., thankfully with tasteful detailing such as studs and embroideries. Moving on from the previous fringed sling bag fever, the dangling embellishment now comes in more luxe materials namely metal and velvet.

For those seeking a twist to the classic ladylike look for an evening event, fringed clutch is the answer.

Products info: Matthew Williamson fringe-embellished clutch, approx. RM4,184. Zara fringed boxy clutch, RM199.90. Mango metal fringe clutch, RM399
