Swapping Outfits: Hana Pesut’s Switcheroo Project

Sometimes in the heat of an argument, it is quite tempting to ask your significant other to walk a mile in your shoes and perhaps they’d understand what you have to go through – but what if they decided to swap their entire outfit instead?

Enter Hana Pesut’s interesting photo project called Switcheroo; the Vancouver-based photographer started taking photos of people (usually a couple or a pair) in their own outfits and juxtaposed these against a similar photo taken using the same background and same people – only this time, their outfits are swapped!

The result is incredibly interesting – some are fun, others look more uncomfortable, and some look even better with the outfits of their significant other on.

The project which started in May 2010, began when Hana went camping with some friends and noticed that two of them were dressed like polar opposites; one decked out in tie-dye, sequins, leopard print and lots of silk scarves, while the other was wearing black jeans and a black t-shirt.

“I thought it would be fun if they switched outfits and I decided to take before and after photos,” she said in an interview.

After 200 Switcheroo photos later, she says the project was meant to merely provide a new and interesting take on portraits. However, after receiving lots of different opinions from various people, she knew she was on to something.

“I still enjoy just hearing everyone’s own interpretations rather than putting an idea out there of what I think it should be,” she added.
