Category : Food , Living

It’s that time of the year again. The time where rendang, kari and all other sorts of other yummy Malay cuisine make a strong appearance for a month – ‘berbuka buasa’ time!

Some of you might be going ‘what, so early?!” Yup, this year’s Ramadhan period falls on June 29, 2014 until July 27, 2014. So, to give you foodies an idea of where to head to fill your bellies, here’s a specially curated list for you.

Paya Serai at Hilton Hotel, PJ

Hooray for everybody’s favourite buka puasa choice! Hilton Petaling Jaya ushers in Ramadhan with its special Ifta and Sahur buffet. Helmed by Executive Chef Ridzuan Malek, this year’s spread focuses on food authenticity. So be prepared to feast on authentic and local delights such as Lawa Roasted Beef Salad, Fish Head Curry, an assortment of paru selection Apam Balik and Ikan Bakar Melaka. There will also be a durian buffet from 8.30pm onwards at the hotel’s porte-cohere area. Yum!

Running from 7pm to 10pm daily, prices for the buffet are such:

  • RM119++ per adult for 28 – 30 June and 23 – 27 June
  • RM139++ per adult for 1 – 22 July
  • RM79++ for children below 12-years-old

Melur & Thyme at KLCC

Named as “Moonlight Delights,” the buffet will begin on June 301, 2014. The buffet spread ranges from traditional to modern-day Malay cuisine. Featuring a different set of menu every week, the selection includes familiar Apartment-style food such as pastas, seafood pie and a selection of freshly-carved meat at the carving station. Also available are popular Malay dishes such as Kerabu, Ulam-Ulaman, Nasi Hujan Panas, Ikan Asam Pedas, Bubur Pengat Pisang, authentic Kuih-Muih, and many other more!

The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur

With classic favourites and new creations to celebrate this fasting month, the feast at Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur is bound to keep you happy! Done al-fresco style, the food available in this resort are such as Kerabu Hati Ayam, Kerabu Nangka, Nasi Minyak with green beans, Ayam Rendang, Sup Tulang Gearbox with Potato and many more. There will also be a roti canai stall, Malay bazaar stall, Indian cuisine stall and carving stall — so there’s bond to be something for everyone! Prices are RM115++ for adults and RM75++ for children.

The Harrods World Signature Shop and Tea Salon at KLCC

If you’d like to beat the hustle and bustle of buffet and bazaar crowds, consider booking a spot at The Harrods World Signature Shop and Tea Salon. Back for its fifth time in a row, the Chef’s Sunset Special at Harrods is a true feast for epicureans with a penchant for the finer things in life.

Essentially a semi-buffet, customers get to pick a main course and be spoilt for choice between impeccably prepared appetisers and desserts that vary day to day. Our suggestion would be the Prawn Pasta Aglio-Olio, Mocha Latte Crème Bulee and Date Fritters. Priced at RM110++ per person, advanced reservations are required.
