The male model, who stole the limelight for his androgynous features, is now a woman!
Andrej Pejic once built his career and reputation as a male model who could fashion both men and womenswear. His androgynous looks and gender-bending traits are what made him famous after being discovered while working in McDonald’s.
Now the supermodel has shared that he has undergone sexual reassignment surgery and Andrej is to be known as Andreja.
It has been reported that Pejic went public with her decision on Wednesday and she will now only be modelling women’s clothing.
“I figured out who I was very early on – actually, at the age of 13, with the help of the Internet – so I knew that a transition, becoming a woman, was always something I needed to do,” the Serbian-born model said in an interview with Style.com.
It wasn’t possible to do it then and androgyny was Pejic’s way of expressing her femininity without needing to explain herself much.
This has proven to be Pejic’s selling point with designers booking her for many fashion shoots, campaigns, runway shows, etc. Her looks is unique that she was even commissioned to model wedding gowns at the Barcelona Bridal Week 2012.
There’s no doubt that Andreja Pejic will continue to be a sought-after model and to that, we wish her all the best.
