[Event] Arts For Grabs: The Pioneer Arts & Crafts Bazzar

The city’s pioneer arts and crafts bazaar: ‘Arts for Grabs’ is back, and this time in collaboration with UNHCR to commemorate World Refugee Day.

If you’re into art and arts and crafts bazzars, don’t miss out on this event this weekend. There will be performances by refugee groups, forums, workshops by Mynrose Studio, standup comedy, a book launch by Fixi, forums by Projek Dialog, exhibitions, a documentary screening about the plight of the Rohingya community, and more.

A total of 64 Malaysian booths + 20 refugee booths + 12 events will take place over weekend at this event. Vendors participating at this event are Raksasa Print Studio, Biawak Gemok Distro, Obscura Malaysia, KL Book Exchange, Chirpy Bunch, TapiTapir, Laridaribumi Print and others.

The vendors will be selling all kinds of offerings, such as doodles, pottery, cookies for pets and even, poetry. The event will also see sponsored booths for Gerai OA, Safe Our Seahorses, Marecet (Langkawi Dolphin Research), Re:Ed, SUKA Society & KL Book Exchange.

Buku Fixi melancarkan dua novel. NOTA ialah yang terbaru dari penulis prolifik Shaz Johar manakala PEKAN-PEKAN KERTAS ialah terjemahan PAPER TOWNS (John Green) yang turut dibuat oleh Shaz Johar! Shaz akan berbincang mengenai proses penulisan dan penterjemahan dan juga kongsi beberapa gambar!

SEEDS OF HATRED
Documentary & Photos by Mahi Ramakrishnan
Seeds of Hatred is a 30min documentary looking at the state-sponsored violence against the Muslim minority Rohingya in Burma. It explores issues surrounding Burma’s deeply divided society, Burma’s peace process, ASEAN’s role and the role of the military in this violence. Mahi will also show photos shot in displaced peoples’ camps in Burma and the refugee settlements in Malaysia to narrate individual stories of displacement, rape and killings unleashed against the Rohingya. We will be joined by Klang MP Charles Santiago and Global Movement of Moderates CEO Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah to discuss how Malaysia and ASEAN need to work together to resolve this.

REBUILDING LIVES: Refugee youth voices
Four refugee youths share the story of their lives in exile, and how opportunities given to them by Malaysians have made a difference. Compelling stories include a rare opportunity at tertiary education provided to a youth from Myanmar; and a young refugee man who came to Malaysia illiterate, found education and a life direction, and has become a leader in his own right.

PEOPLE LIKE YOU & ME: Malaysians 4 Refugees
Malaysians talk about their projects using the arts to empower refugees in Malaysia, and what the refugees in turn teach us about ourselves.

LAUGHS FOR GRABS
Free Comedy. No GST!
Five comedians help you to spend wisely with this free show. Come laugh, save money, then go buy cheap art. Performed by Justin Heyes, Brian Tan, Keren Bala Devan, Aw Yuong Tuck and Sim Tong.
