We were recently invited to visit the Johor Premium Outlets. And it was so much (shopping) fun!
I’ve personally not been to an outlet like this before; and was pleasantly surprised by the brand line up and the prices at the Johor Premium Outlets (JPO).
They officially open their doors in 2011 and completed Phase II expansion in 2013.
Getting there from Kuala Lumpur took approximately three and a half hours, so that would be a decent drive down for those of you who are thinking about making a trip down.
Located at the intersection of the North-South Expressway and Second Link Expressway; the Outlet is an hour away from Singapore and a short drive away from Senai airport. So it is quite accessible.
The outlet itself was surrounded by all greens (palm oil trees). A refreshing change from the visual clusters of concrete jungle we live in. The design of the JPO was spacious and with an open air concept, the stores were of course fully air-conditioned. The whole layout made it very easy to just stroll along casually.
The best part of the JPO is of course the shopping. The brand list here is both High End and High Street. With 130 stores and an impressive brand list.
Talking of brands, I’m sure you want to know what brands there are. Well the brands family at JPO includes; Armani, Michael Kors, Coach, Versace, Tommy Hilfiger, Brooks Brothers, Kipling, Lacoste, DKNY, and recent addition are Gucci, Bally, Bath & Body Works just to name a few. And Burberry has just refurbished a double storey outlet as well.
For you sport fans and high street lovers, they’ve also Nike Factory Store, Puma, Cotton On and Swatch among others.
Check out the full list of brands here.
Brands aside, what makes the shopping trip worth it? It’s the massive saving available from the outlets.
Stores here have items on discount from 25% – 65% everyday and some even as high as 80%! Imagine getting 80% Off on a handbag at Coach (which by the way, is one of the stores that will constantly have a line on peak day)s. Or buying a watch at 50% off.
Of course we did some shopping, it too irresistible not too. Our shopping list included a Polo shirt from Brooks Brothers at RM 73 @ 80% off, a wallet from Coach at RM 318 @ 60% off, a Swatch watch at RM 180 @ 50%. Just to give you an idea of how it’s like. You can expect the same of other stores at the JPO.
Note that it is an Outlet
Just a note, going shopping at the JPO is more like a treasure hunt. Go expecting to find deals on great items. You would be lucky if you found something specific that you want. But keep an open mind and the excitement for a hunt.
Things to do other than Shopping
Though the main thing to do there is of course shopping, but they also have a food court and many food outlets to replenish your sustenance and take a break during your shopping. You can find restaurants such as, Absolute Thai, George and the Dragon, Strarbucks, Coffee Bean and many more for your dinning pleasure.
School of Hard Knocks – Royal Selangor
Royal Selangor at the JPO offers shoppers quite an interesting experience in making something from pewter. They call it the school of Hard Knocks, where they teach and guide you in making your very own pewter item, using the tools that the pros would.
They taught us to make a bowl, crafting it from a flat piece of pewter. Using a mold and hammer, we knocked away at the piece of pewter until it resembled that of a bowl. No wonder it was called the “School of Hard Knocks”.
It was great fun and Royal Selangor offers this for RM 63.60, and you get to take home the Bowl you made of course.
4th Anniversary Celebration
The Johor Premium Outlet will be celebrating their fourth anniversary this year, from 1 – 15 December 2015.
Many of the 130 stores at the outlet will be offering additional saving during the year-end holiday season, as well as many contest and giveaways to reward shoppers.
A Shop & Win Contest will be held with great prizes to be won, such as luxury bags and luggage and other great prizes worth RM 20,000. A complimentary LeSportsac pouch will be given to those who spend a minimum of RM 1000. And the first 15 customers will receive golf-simulator vouchers that can be redeemed at Pan-West.
If you are heading to Johor for any reason, stop by the Johor Premium Outlets for some shopping. Or plan a trip down and make a day of it. Just remember to make space for all that shopping.
With the holiday season coming up, the JPO is a great place to get some ‘gift’ shopping done.
