Photo Face-Off is back for a second season on History Channel, presented by Canon PhotoMarathon and in association with SilkAir. The show had a very successful first season, being rated number one in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
We were invited to the Premier of the show held at the Bee at Publika, where we met the three Malaysian contestants Azril Azam, Desmond Teoh, Ignitius Kong, and Pro-Photographer Justin Mott. This season sees 16 amateur photographers from 6 different countries going up against each other and also against Justin Mott. Only one contestant from each country will advance to the finals!
The new host of the show this season is the beautiful Sarah Lian. Each episode of the season will put the contestants through various challenges; Speed, Theme, and Extreme. Each challenge is designed to push each contestant to the limit testing their skills, creativity, and knowledge.
We were given a preview of how a speed challenge would be, at the premiere of the show, where host Sarah Lian issued a Challenge for ‘Most Patriotic Shot’, giving each contestant a hand-held Malaysia Flag and 5-minutes to complete the Challenge. The photos were then judged by the audience and the winner of that challenge was Azril.
This season will be a lot more competitive and challenging. Not only do the contestants have to go up against Justin Mott, but also each other. Each challenge will have a new judge and will be scored on the photographer’s use of light, creativity, and composition. For the amateur photographers that are able to beat Justin Mott in a challenge, 3 bonus points will be awarded.
There is a good mix of photographers from different backgrounds, specialties, and ages. There is even a 12-year-old contestant, Thaqiphum Techaphan from Tailand.
“It’s interesting to see how each contestant approaches each challenge”- Justin Mott
Mr. Donny Ling, Director of Image Communication Products Division from Canon Malaysia tells us “Photo Face-Off Season 2 is a valuable platform for the region’s photographers and photo enthusiasts to pick up techniques and learn about the latest photography technology”.
Season 2 of Photo Face-Off will premiere on History Channel Astro, Channel 555 & 575 (HD), on 22nd September 2015, Tuesday, at 10 PM.
For you guys that are into photography, do stop and check out the photos taken by Justin Mott and the three Malaysian contestants. The Exhibition is at the Ground Floor, Concourse of Publika Shopping Gallery and will be held from 14th to 22nd September 2015.
