    You have a dinner date in a couple of hours, no time to get ready and you still want to look fabulous. This is when Simpli Dry comes to the rescue.

    Last week, Simpli Dry offered to sponsor Venusbuzz’s team a chance to review their services. Simpli Dry is an express beauty bar that specializes in blow-dries, updos and mani-pedis for women on the go.

    Since it opens really early at 7.30AM and closes in the evening at 7.30PM, customers can easily pop by for a quick appointment before or after work. A wash and blow would set you back RM 38, a blow dry only for RM 28 and an updo for an additional RM 15.

    As our year-end schedules were really busy, we asked them whether they could make our hair look fabulous in under 45 minutes.

    Simpli Dry:

    When I first entered Simpli Dry, I was greeted by warm smiles and quickly whisked away for a hairwash and a scalp massage. While you get your hair washed, the beautician at hand will start on your mani-pedi right at the washbasins. Efficient.

    Back at the styling station, a cup of hot brewed coffee was waiting for me. I received another amazing massage while they toweled dry my hair. This time they worked on the knots in my shoulders.

    Two hairstylists blew out my hair while I answered work emails.

    37 minutes later my flat hair was transformed to loose curls and I’m ready for my dinner date. My experience from the start to the end was wonderful and I really had nothing to complain about. The hairstylists were friendly, the coffee was delicious, massages were relaxing and hairstyling was efficient.

    Beauty Trends with Bobbi Brown – Spring /Summer 2016

    Fashion is more than just clothes, its style and presentation, and makeup plays a big part. New York Fashion Week saw models strutting down the runway with latest the fashion world has to offer for Spring/Summer 2016 collections. And with upcoming clothing trends being showcased, beauty trends naturally followed.

    Yahoo Beauty’s editor-in-chief recently appeared on with Good Morning America says that three big beauty trends stood out at Fashion Week.

    “The entire look for the season is all about natural, comfortable, easy and it doesn’t take a lot of work” – Bobbi Brown

    1. “No Makeup” Makeup

    A big trend at Fashion Week was the no makeup look. Bobbi Brown says it can be worn with a nude lip or bright red lips, similar to the models at the Jason Wu show.

    Bobbi Brown said in the interview “Some designers sent models down the runway without a stitch of makeup on, just some moisturizer”

    Though Brown notes that the models are in their 20’s, making this trend a “don’t try at home”.  We suggest go for it if you are bold enough.

    2. Accented Nails

    A trend that was spotted by Brown was the Accented Nails. She says “A black dot, a white stripe and then colors coordinating with the clothes on the side of the nail,” talking about the looks seen on the runways of Tibi, Public School and Adam Selman.

    Brown says that this is a very modern trend and easy to apply, and definitely something to try at home.

    3. Beachy, Wavy Hair

    Brown describes the hair trend as “kind of a downtown, cool girl.” Noting that there shouldn’t be too many curls and just a little bit of waves.

    Brown does suggest pulling out the curler and trying it yourself.

    7 Natural Remedies To Get Rid Of Dandruff

    Don’t you just hate those white flaky bits on your shoulder?

    It is not uncommon to come across someone with dandruff, the sign is pretty clear.

    Dandruff could be due to a number of causes such as a dry scalp or a skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis or most commonly – an overgrowth of a yeastlike fungus called malassezia.

    Sure there are many products formulated to treat dandruff including shampoos with zinc pyrithione, which targets fungus and bacteria; coal tar and selenium sulphide, which slow the growth and cover up skin cells on your scalp; and salicylic acid, which loosens flakes to make it easier to wash away.

    But as with the rage these days, natural home treatments are the way forward.

    Aloe vera

    Although it may be used more commonly to treat minor burns, it can also give you relief from dandruff. Aloe vera has a compound that inhibit the process of rapid skin cell growth, and since dandruff is caused by cells growing and dying too rapidly, aloe can restore the cells to normalcy.

    ~ Apply aloe vera gel to the scalp 15 minutes before washing your hair.

    Apple cider vinegar

    The acidity of apple cider vinegar can change the pH of your scalp so this makes it harder for yeast to grow. Vinegar can also get rid of the dead skin cells that would turn into dandruff flakes and clogging your pores.

    ~ Mix a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar with a quarter cup water in a spray bottle and spritz on scalp. Wrap head in a towel and let sit for an hour maximum, then wash hair as usual. Repeat this twice a week.

    Baking soda

    This versatile ingredient reduces overactive fungi that cause dandruff. It may dry out your hair at first but after a few weeks, your scalp will start producing natural oils, leaving your mane softer and free of flakes.

    ~ Wet hair and rub a handful of baking soda vigorously into scalp. Skip the shampoo and rinse.

    Coconut oil

    This folk treatment has been tried and tested for its efficacy for years as coconut oil has natural anti-fungal properties.

    ~ Massage 3-5 tablespoons of oil into your scalp before showering and let it sit for about an hour. Shampoo as normal after. You should see improvement in dandruff within days.

    Lemon

    Lemon’s acidity helps balance out the pH of your scalp so this keeps dandruff at bay. Though you won’t see immediate results, you will see vast improvement with continuous use.

    ~ Massage 2 tablespoons lemon juice into your scalp and rinse with water. Then stir 1 teaspoon lemon juice into 1 cup water and rinse your hair with it. Repeat this daily until the dandruff disappears.

    Salt

    The abrasive texture of table salt is great for scrubbing out dandruff flakes before you shampoo. It does not cure dandruff but will definitely help with the flaky situation.

    ~ Shake some salt onto dry scalp and work it through your head with a gentle massage. This will break the loose pieces of skin which are causing dandruff. Wash your hair with shampoo and condition as normal.

    Tea tree oil

    A study found that shampoos with just 5 percent of tea tree oil can significantly improves the condition of dandruff. Tea tree oil is extracted from leaves that have fungicidal properties so it is especially soothing for sore or itchy skin and scalp.

    ~ Search for shampoos infused with tea tree oil or add a few drops of the oil to your favourite shampoo and wash as per normal.

    Are Ponytails Bad For Your Hair & Scalp?

    There are some days that call for a ponytail hairstyle. But could this be bad for your tresses?

    I’ll be first to admit that on days when I haven’t had time to wash my hair, I like to keep it all up in a ponytail or bun. The liberation feels great when the face is cleared of any unruly strands and you get to hide the day-old greasiness of hair too.

    But then the questions start coming in… Is it damaging to have my hair up in a ponytail for so many hours? Are my roots suffering? Is that why my hair is falling more than usual?

    Well, ponytails are no doubt convenient and useful style but as with any personal care tip, you need to treat your hair with gentleness.

    According to experts, it shouldn’t feel as if you’re giving yourself a ‘mini-facelift’ every time you pull your hair back.

    When you have on tight ponytails, you are stretching out your hair, especially the delicate fine strands at the front of the scalp which are most susceptible to traction damage. Meaning if you pull on it over a long period of time, you may be ripping out your hair hence more prominent hair fall.

    Good thing is this hair loss is temporary but only at first. Constant traction can cause inflammation around the hair follicle, which may go deeper and cause damage in the follicle itself and prevent regrowth of new hair.

    Do take note if you particularly like the tight ponytail look, or always wear them in the same spot on your head. If you want to avoid permanent damage, you should change up the way you wear your ponytails.

    • Vary the location of your ponytail – high, low, crown, side – this keeps hair from damage at the roots and breakage.
    • Use fabric bands to decrease snags. The elastic ones tend to catch on hair and cause tension.
    • Keep it loosely tied up. Too much tugging on your scalp irritates nerves and can cause headaches. Beauty is not pain!

    What Is It?

    The (not so) secret ingredient behind the product is none other than caviar extract. That said, certain key ingredients of this item yields pretty big promises:

    • Caviar extract’s amino and omega-3 fatty acids even out the hair shaft.
    • Vitamin C to resist free radicals.
    • Seasilk marine botanicals help provide moisture.

    How To Use It?

    Simply squeeze out some of the CC cream onto your palm and apply evenly on tresses. You can either use this when your hair is wet or dry.

    Did We Like It?

    In our honest opinion, the Alterna Caviar CC Cream for Hair 10-in-1 is all right but is not a product to shout about.

    While we are unsure about its heat protection and anti-breaking benefits (or rather, we couldn’t really tell), we give you assurance that it did give our limp hair a nice moisture-kick, texture and shine. Oh, and it also left our hair smelling real nice! Effects lasted about 5-6 hours, even in the hot and humid Malaysian weather. However, we personally think that it would’ve been better if the leave in product did not leave a slight build up in our hair after application.

    As a whole, we applaud Alterna for creating such an interesting hair product and would recommend this CC Cream to those who are looking for an extra treatment for their hair.

    How To Grow Out Your Hair Healthily & Beautifully

    One of the most awkward phases in a woman’s life is when her hair is neither here nor there. 

    Like the majority of ladies out there, our hair is the crowning glory that is much treasured. Now when you have a short-ish style of hair that you want to grow out, patience is a virtue that you’d need a big dose of. Going from pixie cut to just mid-length can be a frustrating experience. But far from letting it get to you, we’ve got some tips on how to make the process smoother.

    Circulate

    For anything to grow in your body, there needs to be a good blood flow or circulation. So it would make sense to give yourself a scalp massage every day. Gently use your fingertips to run through your hair and move in a circular motion on your scalp to increase circulation to the follicles. Regular exercises will help get the blood running too.

    Flip & Brush

    Make it a daily affair to brush your hair with the head flipped forward, moving from roots to ends. This is to distribute all the natural oils down to your dry ends and prevent dryness or breakage – a vital factor in growing out your hair.     Trim
